New Jersey digital advertising agency Digital Insider wrote a piece earlier this week on social media and mobile-app favorite Snapchat and how their use of geofilters are changing the way we see social media marketing. We’re thrilled to tell you, step by step, how to create your own Snapchat geofilter for your business.
Step 1: Design your geofilter!
The most important thing when you start designing your Snapchat geofilter is knowing what you want your filter to look like. Snapchat suggests using Photoshop, Illustrator or Sketch if you want to design your own geofilter, and they also offer a free basic template to use. You want to make sure your design can be easily used as a banner over a photo or video, and you should pay close attention to the colors you choose and whether or not they will be easily seen over a variety of different color schemes.
Step 2: Upload your filter!
This is done by using the Snapchat On-Demand site. Once you create a free account (or you can use your login if you already have the Snapchat app downloaded), you can upload your geofilter design. Once everything is uploaded, you’ll come across a preview of how it will look on the app.
For example, to the right is a geofilter Digital Insider created – if you were to visit our office and use Snapchat, you could use this geofilter to let everyone know where you were!
Step 3: Set The Date & Time!
Now you have to choose when you want your filter to run. Once selected, there will be no other opportunities to go back and change the date, so make sure everything is correct before you submit your filter!
Step 4: Choose the Location!
Since it’s a Geofilter, you need to pin point a location on the map Snapchat provides. In order to select a location, it’s as easy as either entering an address or use the tools provided to draw a shape around your desired geographical area. Once everything is mapped out, Snapchat will take care of the rest.
Congratulations! You’ve just created your first Snapchat geofilter! It’s an easy way to market your business or event to current customers who have Snapchat, as well as broadening your reach to new customers you haven’t met yet.
